A Brief History of Trimble, Missouri

The roots of Trimble, Missouri, trace back to May 1, 1843, when President John Tyler signed an abstract granting land to William Carpenter. Part of this land would later become the site of the present-day town of Trimble. William’s sons, Amos and Dan Carpenter, inherited the land and in 1891 platted a portion of it for a new town they named Carpenter’s Store, Missouri. At the heart of the community was their large general store, already a well-established local hub for goods and trade.

For seven years, Carpenter’s Store flourished as a small but vibrant town. In 1898, seeking to formalize and grow the settlement, the Carpenters consulted with a lawyer named Mr. Trimble. Following his advice, the town moved toward official incorporation. In recognition of his guidance—and likely his influence—the town’s name was changed from Carpenter’s Store to Trimble, Missouri.
